This is the sacrificial device which is used in an electric circuit to protect the electrical appliances from over current. This is the weak low resistance device containing a metal wire or strip with low melting point which melts when the current passing through it is not required or is oversize.
Most of the fuses used for the home appliances are rated as 13-Amperes,thus when the current of 16-Amperes try to pass through it,the metal wire will break rapidly to cut the circuit.
Fuses are used as an alternatives for the circuit breakers when there is a failure on its operation.
A fuse metallic conductors are either made by Zinc,Silver,Copper,Alloys or Aluminium.
Once the current increases, also the breaking time of the fuse decreases. But also the operating time of the fuse depends upon the type of metal used to construct its conductor.
